Rotate PDF 90 Degrees

A preset of Rotate PDF

Turn every page a quarter turn clockwise — the standard fix for a landscape scan that opens sideways. The rotation is written into the file, so it stays fixed in every reader.

The uniform-orientation scan case

A single 90-degree rotation applied to every page is the right choice specifically when a document was scanned or fed through a device consistently sideways from start to finish — every page needs the identical correction, so there is no reason to specify a page range at all. This is common with sheet-fed scanners loaded with landscape-oriented paper, or a document originally created in landscape layout and scanned by equipment that assumes portrait pages.

Clockwise is the direction offered by default because it is the more frequent correction needed in practice; if a document instead needs a counterclockwise quarter turn, rotating 90 degrees clockwise three times in a row lands on the same result, since a full rotation cycles back to the original orientation every 360 degrees.

Applying it across a batch of similar documents

When several scans share the same misorientation — a batch pulled from the same scanning session, all fed in the same way — this preset applies identically to each one, since the correction genuinely is uniform across the whole batch. Worth checking the first output carefully before processing the rest, though: if even one document in the batch was scanned differently, applying a blanket rotation to all of them will fix the majority and introduce the same problem into whichever ones were already correct.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my viewer forget the rotation when I reopen the file?

Most PDF readers let you rotate the *view* without changing the document — the rotation is discarded when you close it. This tool writes the rotation into the page objects themselves, so it travels with the file to every reader and printer.

Does rotating reduce quality or increase file size?

Neither. A PDF page carries a rotation attribute, so the change is a single number per page. Nothing is re-rendered or recompressed, and scanned images are untouched.

Can I rotate only some pages?

Yes. Enter a range like `1-3, 7` and only those pages are turned — the usual case for a scan where a few sheets went through the feeder the wrong way round.

Can I rotate a password-protected PDF?

No. Encrypted files are rejected with a clear message rather than silently stripped of their protection. Remove the password in the application that created the file first.
