Flip Image Horizontally

Most phones display the front-camera preview already mirrored, because that matches what you see in an actual mirror and feels natural while framing the shot. Many phones then save the file un-mirrored, matching how everyone else sees you, which means the photo you approved on-screen and the file that gets saved can be flipped relative to each other — and the saved version often looks subtly "off" to the subject, even though it is the accurate, non-mirrored orientation.

A horizontal flip is the fix when you specifically want the mirrored version to match what was seen in the preview, or when a photo needs to match the direction a subject faces elsewhere in a layout — flipping one of a pair of images so two people appear to face each other, for instance.

Anything asymmetric in the frame reverses along with the subject: text becomes mirror-writing and unreadable, a wristwatch moves to the other wrist, a logo on clothing reverses, and a car's steering wheel appears to be on the wrong side. This is fine for a portrait against a plain background and a real problem for a photo containing signage, branding, or anything where left and right actually mean something. Worth a close look at the frame before flipping anything other than a simple portrait.
